Tried to use the same steps for linux mint 17.3 but had trouble with finding some packages. Installed all I could find from the list in the thread. "Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (L2TP)" doesn't show up in the network manager gui under the create tab. IPsec/IKv2 strongswan is on the list with the default PPTP.
